Matt Martin, a young tech entrepreneur raised on a dairy farm, continues to make exciting new waves in Canadian Country Music. Growing up in rural Ontario, Matt feels a deep connection to Country Music and the roots that comprise what it is today.
Back at it with his third radio single, country fans will not be disappointed. “I Wanna Be There”, gives listeners a deeper look into Matt’s personal life as he explores the emotions of his relationship with #1 rock recording artist JJ Wilde and the challenges of being together while often apart; traveling separately on the road.
The song was co-written in Nashville with Canadian David Borys, and Americans Tom Whall and Emily Earle. The song is produced by Canada’s Shawn Moore and mastered by Ted Jensen (Morgan Wallen, Hardy). The song captures Matt’s gravitational draw to contemporary country writing style with a 2020 modern vibe that gives today’s country listeners something familiar, yet fresh and intriguing. And the lyrical content? Well, everyone can relate with the feeling of isolation from loved ones in today’s global pandemic circumstances. It simply hits home.
Shooting for new heights, “I Wanna Be There” follows on the coattails of Matt’s second single, “Passenger Seat”, released in summer 2020. Impressively, like his 2019 debut single, it was picked up on the first week by Spotify Canada’s “Live Country” playlist where it continues to sit, now with 60,000 streams and counting. In the following months, Apple Music added the song to one of it’s biggest country playlists, “New In Country”, as well as their “Canada’s Country” playlist.
A new single is not all that country fans have been enjoying from Matt recently. Following his multiple writing trips to Nashville, Matt developed and released his 6 song debut EP, “Where the Flowers Bloom”, on Nov 24, 2020. His growing audience continues to applaud his honest storytelling style and a sound that resembles a mix of something like Russell Dickerson, Jake Owen, and even Dierks Bentley. However you interpret it, there’s no doubt you will get a real glimpse into the fun, lightheartedness of Matt’s personality without neglecting the very real, intimate moments of his life and relationships. You don’t just get great songs, you get to know the person behind them; a down-to-earth man who dreams big and loves to make music about his experiences. And his dog, Banjo… he also writes about him.
