If you’ve been on Facebook or Instagram recently you may have wondered why Homer and Marge Simpson were at a Prince Albert pizza shop.
Last week, the popular T.V. couple paid a visit to T.J.’s Pizza as part of a new promotional campaign by the Downtown Business Improvement District (PADBID).
“It’s just a positive and fun way to market our local businesses in the downtown business district,” said Rhonda Trusty, CEO of PADBID.
“We have more businesses to showcase and I think when you are looking at how to market, how do you try and come up with a way to market multiple businesses in a campaign?”
Trusty said the idea for using The Simpsons came after a successful campaign over Christmastime with Prince Albert’s Grinch.
Throughout December, the Dr. Seuss character visited multiple businesses, showcasing all the downtown has to offer.
“Due to the very positive and warm response that we received then I considered, what was another way to do this? Then Homer and Marge came to mind.”
Throughout February, Homer and Marge will be visiting the different businesses that call downtown home.
So far, they are been to T.J.’s Pizza and Image Computer Services.
Trusty said local business owners have been more than thrilled with the publicity.
“I think the business community is appreciating the efforts that we are making to promote them,” she said. “It’s just a way to change the dialogue and inject a different way of looking at our downtown.”
Of course, Trusty is hoping to incorporate the many quirky elements of Homer Simpson who loves a good donut, pork chops, or pizza.
