The Prince Albert Food Bank joyfully provides food to families living in Prince Albert and area. They pride themselves in supplying nutritious food in a respectful and dignified environment.
According to Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization, the demand for food services is expected to increase by around 60 per cent. And on average, the Prince Albert Food Bank hands out between, 700 and 1000 hampers a month.
As a non-profit, charitable organization, the Prince Albert Food Bank operates because of donations of money and food from members of the community like you. These donations come from individuals, organizations, and corporations.
In working towards a vision of growing a community beyond hunger, volunteers are essential. The Prince Albert Food Bank depends on volunteers for many different functions – from sorting and distributing food to representing the Food Bank in the community. Not only do volunteers help get so many jobs done, the Prince Albert Food Bank also saves money on costs and are able to direct more of your donations to purchase even more food.
The food bank started in the early 1980s with the Share a Meal Program. In 1992, Share A Meal and the Food Bank amalgamated, and the community really came together to help others in the community. By 2012, the expansion was added to the building and the P-A Outreach Van was also added as an affiliate partner. In 2015, focus shifted to food bank operations and the value that volunteers continued to bring to the services.
The Prince Albert Food Bank provides emergency food hampers to those in need along with baby food and formula, diapers and pull-ups, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and pet food and supplies – subject to availability
Today, as always, the Prince Albert Food Bank is passionate about helping those who live a life of struggle and want to be more than their current situation.
